Oh the madness of March is over. As I look at April’s calendar, I think, it looks a little bit crazy and busy too. If I really think about it, many months are busy and crazy and I am frequently looking for the calm moments, even for a day.
The reality is……I have to create it. The world doesn’t just give it to me. So I work to carve out time to center myself. Now I will say that when my daughters were younger, it was hard to do. I am grateful that one is 17 and the other one is 14. They don’t need my attention all the time that I can find some quiet, although some days I feel like a taxi.
So in my desire to carve out some time to relax and renew my spirit, I try and find ways that we can do it together. Over the years, I have encouraged my daughters to walk a labyrinth. For me, I love the sense of peace that comes over me. The first time I did it with them, it was not peace and calm. They were active, asked LOTS of questions and just kept rushing me. But over time, that has changed. It happens with practice and developing a routine.
So think about what helps you find Sabbath, an experience where you feel the presence of God or draws you closer to God. When I was a young mom, my Sabbath needed to include my kids otherwise it didn’t happen. It sometimes was challenging. But a beautiful walk in the park, gave me the sense of experiencing the beauty of God around me, while allowing daughters to run and play. Help restore your soul and find some rest, even if it is just for 5 minutes.
